Making Your First Short FilmÌýis an online asynchronousÌýcourse, whereÌýwe will be both writing andÌýmakingÌýaÌýshortÌýfilmÌýin the time allotted. All lectures will be available virtually and can be done at a pace of a student's choosing. In addition, we will also have an optional, private weekly Zoom, where students will be able to field questions between myself and rotating guests working within the entertainment industry in both Hollywood and the international film scene. Have youÌýalways wantedÌýtoÌýmakeÌýyourÌýownÌýshortÌýfilmÌýand thought you had no experienceÌýorÌýmoney? In this class, get started usingÌýyourÌýDSLR, smartphone, or whateverÌýtool you haveÌýatÌýyourÌýdisposal. You learn howÌýtoÌýwrite, produce, direct,Ìýand editÌýaÌý3-5 minuteÌýshortÌýfictionÌýfilm. Emphasis is placed on maximizing the on-screen value of the project usingÌýavailable resources. TheÌýfirstÌýpart of the class is devotedÌýtoÌýthe preproduction process, highlighting the role of the story,Ìýand providesÌýan overview ofÌýaffordable shooting equipmentÌýand editing technologies. You then developÌýand writeÌýyourÌýproject, which isÌýfilmed outside of class. Instruction includesÌýaÌýprimer on the fundamentals of shootingÌýand directingÌýactors,Ìýas wellÌýas the basics of editingÌýand outputting the projects for streaming. The completedÌýfilmsÌýare screenedÌýand discussed during class.
