Biography
Jonathan Pye is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Spanish. He received his PhD in Spanish with a minor in Latina/o Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His research primarily focuses on Spanish Linguistics – in particular Spanish sociolinguistics. His doctoral dissertation project explored the use of Spanish among Latin Americans living in the UK and how members of this community use language to construct a British Latino identity within community podcasting and on the social media platform TikTok. His areas of research specialization include sociolinguistics, language and media, language ideologies, and computational approaches to the study of language. In addition to his interests in the study of language, Jonathan is also interested in the use of technology in the language classroom, especially the use of technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).
